The face cards or royalty cards of an Anglo-American deck are the three ranks Jack, Queen, and King, which, instead of having a number of pips have a design depicting a person of royalty, usually with several appearances of the suit in the design. The design is usually rotationally symmetrical so that the card is the same despite the direction it is held in. In the standard design, the Jacks of spades and hearts and the King of diamonds are shown in profile, and the other cards are shown face-on.
